Cargill Opens New $50M Premix Animal Feed Facility in Ohio

Ground was first broken in Lewisburg, Ohio, for Cargill’s Lewisburg West facility in November 2018. Today, after an investment of $50 million, the cutting-edge, 220,000 square-foot facility is ready to employ never-before-used technology in animal agriculture or pet food production to make non-medicated feed.

The technology used on-site will allow for the reduction of resource requirements for the facility, which will have an annual production capacity of 154,000 tons, and will act to support Cargill and Provimi branded animal nutritional premixes and products, along with additives and specialty custom blends.

The plant will include a 160-foot steel premix tower and new automation and controls that will precisely control measurements and traceability, allowing Cargill to exceed industry standards and reduce cross contamination. Micro-ingredient dosing will be possible through flexible hoppers with the ability for gram-level precision, and the facility will also have precise humidity and temperature controls and strict management of ingredients and site access to ensure quality control and product safety.

Each of the plant’s four production lines will be able to run a completed mix in about an hour. And as a non-medicated facility, will support livestock or poultry operations raising animals without the use of antibiotics.
