Merit Functional Foods Constructing World’s First Facility to Produce Food-Grade Canola Protein in M

Merit Functional Foods is constructing a 94,000 square-foot production facility that will produce the world’s most pure and highest quality canola and pea protein. So far, the facility’s superstructure was completed in May, and the initial placement of equipment and enclosure of the building is happening throughout the month of June. Once fully completed, the plant will be the first and only commercial site with the capacity to produce food-grade canola protein, a new alternative in the plant-based market.

Ryan Bracken, the co-CEO of Merit, stated that the facility will redefine plant-based protein with the ability to produce unprecedented canola and pea proteins for food and beverages from the heart of Canada’s agricultural hubs. The site also will create more than 175 new jobs, and will use Merit’s protein extraction technology to enable value-addition for Canadian grown pulses and oilseeds. More on this story
