Demand for Hand Sanitizer is Boosting Ethanol Industry
As people take precautions against coronavirus, ethanol producers are seeing greater demand due to customers stockpiling hand sanitizer.
Governments and health organizations have been advising the public to wash their hands often, and to use hand sanitizer to help fight the spread of the virus, prompting an increased demand for ethyl alcohol, also known as industrial alcohol or denatured alcohol, used to manufacture many hand sanitizers.
In only a month’s time, Cargill stated that demand for its denatured alcohol in Europe has doubled, and France-based Tereos, one of the largest producers of bioethanol alcohol in the EU, said that it recently received a special order for an additional 528,000 gallons of denatured alcohol.
