Royal DSM, Avril Partner to Develop New Protein Based on Non-GMO Canola

Global science-based nutrition and sustainability-focused company Royal DSM is partnering with French agro-industrial group Avril to develop CanolaPRO, a new protein based on non-GMO canola.

Both companies excel in human nutrition, with Avril bringing its 35 years of experience in agriculture to the partnership, while DSM will provide its expertise in food and beverage solutions, creating an effective venture for meeting the growing global demand for plant protein.

According to the companies, CanolaPRO is a complete protein with a balanced taste profile and high nutritional value, making it ideal for a wide scope of applications in the food and beverage industries, including meat and dairy alternative products, baked products, bars, ready-to-mix products, and beverages.

As part of the deal, an Avril subsidiary, Saipol, in Dieppe, France, will be fully dedicated to the production of canola proteins, which should be commercially available as early as the end of 2021.
