GrainsConnect Canada Announces First Terminal in Alberta

GrainsConnect Canada has announced its third terminal in Western Canada, and its first terminal in Alberta, a $30 million, inland storage and high-speed train loading terminal in Vegreville, Alberta. The project complements the company’s first two high-capacity terminals in Maymont and Reford, Saskatchewan.

The Vegreville site consists of a 35,000-ton grain terminal with the ability to load 134 rail cars in less than 14 hours, enabling the facility to quickly move grain from producers in the agricultural community surrounding Edmonton.

Headquartered in Calgary, and formed through a joint venture between GrainCorps and Zen-Noh Group, GrainsConnect Canada has forged an agreement with Parrish & Heimbecker (P&H) to make its Fraser Grain Terminal (constructed at the Port of Vancouver in partnership with GrainCorps) a 50:50 joint venture. The Fraser facility will have the capacity to export up to 4 million tons of wheat, barley, oilseeds, pulses, and other commodities per year.

GrainsConnect Canada is planning a fourth terminal, which is scheduled to open in Huxley, Alberta, in the fall of this year.
