Canada’s Atlantic Grains Council Receives $4M in New Funding

Canada’s Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay announced an investment exceeding $4 million in the Atlantic Grains Council being made through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

The Atlantic Grains Council focuses on research for Atlantic grains and oilseeds produced in Canada’s Atlantic region including corn, soybeans, oats, wheat, and barley.

The funding, which will be used in support of research aimed at improving agricultural productivity while also supporting long-term sustainability of grains and oilseed cropping in Atlantic Canada, includes $3.2 million under the Partnership’s AgriScience Program, $260,655 from each of the provinces of PEI, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, and $44,550 from Newfoundland and Labrador.

Eight of the 11 projects being funded are being conducted at the Harrington Research Center in PEI, which has approximate acreage of 300,000 acres of grains and oilseeds, and where the production of grains and oilseeds plays a major role in the economy.
