Perdue Agribusiness Opens Pennsylvania’s First Large-Scale Soybean Plant
Perdue AgriBusiness has officially opened the first commercial large scale soybean processing plant in Pennsylvania. The completion of the plant entailed an investment of $60 million by the company, with the commonwealth of Pennsylvania providing a grant of $8.75 million toward the project through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).
The elevator at the site has a storage capacity of 1.5 million bushels and the adjoining plant has a processing capacity of 17.5 million bushels of soybeans per year. The plant integrates highly efficient technological advances that make the facility environmentally friendly, and both the company and the state of Pennsylvania expect that the new plant will spark increased demand for Pennsylvania soybeans, create more marketing channels, and provide the state’s livestock industry with a new supply of animal feed.
