U.S. Corn, Soybean, Wheat Conditions Continue to Deteriorate

Hot and dry weather across the U.S. are negatively affecting the condition of the country’s corn, soybean, and wheat crops.

In its latest Crop Progress Report, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has rated 65 percent of the corn crop to be in good-to-excellent condition - down from 68 percent in its previous report. Overall, 46 percent of the country’s corn crop was in the silk stage, with 80 percent of Minnesota’s corn and 77 percent of Iowa’s corn rated at being good-to-excellent.

U.S. soybeans are rated at 62 percent being in good-to-excellent condition compared to 64 percent the week before and 71 percent at the same point in the season last year.

However, wheat has taken the largest hit - with a rating of 35 percent in good-to-excellent condition compared to 37 percent in the previous weekly report and 70 percent at the same time last year.
