Land O’Lakes Building Feed Plant in Southeast U.S.

Only months after Land O’Lakes announced it had agreed to acquire Southern States Cooperative’s feed assets, the company announced that it plans to construct its own feed production plant in Roanoke, Virginia.

Stating that the company wanted to move rapidly into the feed market, the planned plant is on schedule to begin operations in December 2018 producing Purina-brand horse and cattle feed, and a range of livestock and lifestyle feeds.

Meanwhile, Southern States Cooperative’s feed business produces livestock feed, seeds, fertilizers, pet foods, animal health supplies and petroleum products, leading many to question if Land O’Lakes will continue with the deal which was meant to close this January.
