Flint Hills Resources Investing $50M at Nebraska Ethanol Plant

Flint Hills Resources is investing $50 million at its ethanol plant located in Fairmont, Nebraska, to upgrade the site to include new technology enabling the facility to produce high-protein animal and fish feed from distillers grains.

Flint Hills currently sources 42 million bushels of corn per year to produce 120 million gallons of ethanol, 310,000 tons of distillers grains, and 20 million pounds of distillers corn oil.

The investment, which is one of the largest of its kind made by a dry mill ethanol producer, will fund the integration of a patented system called Maximized Stillage Co-Products (MSC), developed by Fluid Quip Process Technologies into the Fairmont facility, making the site only the fourth in the world to employ the technology.

Construction associated with the project will begin this spring and is expected to conclude within a year, and will include the addition of a new building and two protein dryers.
