Brazil’s Mato Grosso State In Midst of Grain Truck Strike

Grain trucks are unable to pass a key highway in Mato Grosso state, Brazil’s largest agricultural producing region. Protesters are demanding higher wages for those involved with transporting Brazil’s two key commodities - corn and soybeans. These top two crops are driven for export to cities along the coast, or along the Amazon River.

Entering the fourth day of the strike, it appears some vehicles carrying crops may not be affected by the demonstration. One large grain elevator in the region reports no documented problem transporting grain out of the area, perhaps because truckers may be using a substitute route.
