ADM Expands Pet Food Business with Kansas Acquisition

Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has agreed to acquire Kansas-based, Crosswind Industries Inc., a producer of dry-expanded, dual-texture, semi-dry and semi-moist pet foods and treats.

ADM has earmarked the pet food sector as representing an opportunity for growth, and has been active since 2015 in expanding and improving its Animal Nutrition business in both the U.S. and overseas. Crosswind Industries, which produces contract and private label treats and food, will add five facilities located across Kansas, five processing lines, and nine “ready for retail” packaging lines to ADM’s holdings.

ADM, which already produces more than 50 ingredients and commodities that are used by 70 percent of the pet food companies in North America, also sees the addition of Crosswind as a chance to capitalize upon synergies between Crosswind’s operations and product lines with the group’s existing portfolio of offerings.
