New Grain Handling Company Launching in Saskatchewan

Comtrax Logistics Solutions, a newly formed grain handling company is planning its launch in Saskatchewan.

Founding member Mark Bratrud explained to the Leader Post that plans are in place to construct a 260-railcar loop track system on CO Rail’s Soo Line with 60,000 tons of grain storage capacity in preparation for a grain handling facility to be built on site. Once built, half or more the facility could be sold under a fee for service plan to grain storage units for commercial traders.

The facility will also have trans-loading capabilities enabling it to service other commodities including crude oil, fertilizer, or aggregate.

What sets Comtrax apart however, is that it will be producer-owned, and is being developed to fill a niche in the grain sector for producers who feel disenfranchised since the elimination of the Canadian Wheat Board in 2012.

Producers will be able to invest by purchasing shares in the facility, with the structure of shares to be determined on the level of interest producers show at meetings that will be held in Regina starting December 8. Subsequent meetings will be conducted in Ogema, Weyburn, Carlyle, Radville, Estevan, Oungre, Montmatre, Milestone, Corning and Sedley.
