Perdue Opens Office in Brazil, Expands Grain Trading

Perdue Farms, the fourth largest chicken processor in the U.S., has opened its first international office in Sao Paulo, Brazil to buy and globally trade corn, soybeans, and other commodities on a year round basis.

Perdue already has a presence in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, and this office is a strategic move by Perdue to gain access to grain from the Southern Hemisphere that is counter-cyclical to U.S. harvests.

Brazil has grown to become the second largest soybean grower and third largest corn grower in the world, with global commodity traders including Archer Daniels Midland and Bunge working to gain a presence in the country as a means of geographic diversification.

Perdue Agribusiness buys, processes and trades grains, oilseeds, soybean meal, seed oils, and feed ingredients through its U.S. ports with one third of the unit’s sales being generated from exports.
