Harvest Update: Corn Harvest Lags Behind Four-Year Average

The U.S. corn harvest is progressing slower than the country’s soybean harvest, according to the latest report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

Forty Six percent of the corn harvest is complete and of the corn remaining in the fields, 74 percent is rated as being in good to excellent condition, a significant increase over the rating of 68 percent for the same time last year. The pace, however, for the corn harvest is lagging behind the four year average of 49 percent complete for this point in the season.

Sixty two percent of the U.S. soybean crop is harvested, only one percent below the four year average. Of the soybeans still waiting to be harvested, 74 percent are in good to excellent condition compared to 54 percent at this time last year.

States lagging behind the average harvest pace include Wisconsin, Kansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, and North Carolina.
