Chinese Man Sentenced to Three Years for Conspiring to Steal Biotech Corn Seeds

Mo Hailong, the former director of international business at the Beijing Dabeinong Technology Group Co., has been sentenced to three years in a U.S. prison for conspiring to steal proprietary biotech corn seeds from DuPont Pioneer and Monsanto, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

Hailong admitted to participating in a long-term conspiracy and the theft of corn seeds from fields in southern Iowa among other locations with the intention of transporting them to the Dabeinong Technology Group in China, which owns the subsidiary, Kings Nower Seed.

Upon completion of the three year sentence Hailong will then be required to submit to three years of supervised release and to pay restitution which will be determined at a later date. He will also be required to relinquish two farms in Iowa and Illinois that were bought during the conspiracy.
