Cargill Examining Moving Wichita Headquarters

Cargill is examining moving its operations out of its Wichita headquarters, where it has been since the 1980s, however, whether the move will be to another location within the city or to another state entirely is currently unknown, according to The Wichita Eagle.

The city of Wichita is where the company has located its beef business, its turkey and cooked meat business, its value added protein services including its North American egg business, and its food distribution encompassing 900 employees across two buildings, reports the Lexington Herald Leader.

The classic configuration of the offices and the multiple locations are not ideal for the company moving forward. Cargill’s Director of Communications, Mike Martin told The Wichita Eagle that the current structure poses issues with “continuity and work-flow issues with having people in multiple buildings.”

In addition, the company is looking to secure a more non-traditional office space and atmosphere to attract younger professionals.

"If you look at the marketplace in terms of people, especially young professionals coming into the marketplace for careers, less and less of them are attracted to traditional office space and office-type buildings," said Martin . "We're taking that into consideration to attract millennials and younger people."

The company’s Minneapolis complex is also currently being renovated to create a more open, non-traditional work space, and its soybean crushing plant is undergoing a $50 million expansion, however it is undecided if the nearby Cargill Innovation Center will be moved as well.
