Pulmuone Foods Co. to Acquire Top U.S. Tofu Brand

Vitasoy USA Inc., maker of the nation's top tofu brand Nasoya®, has been purchased by Pulmoune Foods Co. Ltd. for an undisclosed amount. The deal, which was signed on March 23, will give Pulmuone all the commercial assets and operations of Massachusetts-based Vitasoy USA including the Nasoya®, Azumaya®, and San Sui® brands, and will position Pulmuone as the leading tofu company in the world with a presence in the key global tofu markets of Korea, the U.S., Japan, and China.

Established in 1991 in Fullerton, California, Pulmuone Foods USA is a wholly owned affiliate of Korea-based Pulmuone Co. Ltd, and is a leader in refrigerated all natural food products including pastas, sauces, meat alternatives, tofu, salsas, hummus, and dairy alternatives. This deal will offer a high level of operational and logistic synergy, and Pulmuone expects the move to enable the company to expand its footprint beyond tofu.

"Pulmuone now has a strong national platform and presence that will not only drive manufacturing and logistics synergies, but will also enable us to leverage a comprehensive sales and distribution infrastructure to further drive availability of our brands and products within the USA,” said Mr. H. Y. Lee, CEO of Pulmuone Foods Co., Ltd. in a company statement, adding, "This expanded business scale within the USA market will also be the beachhead to drive development and growth of Pulmuone beyond the tofu category."
