Cargill Officially Opens $100M Corn Milling Plant in India

On January 19, Cargill officially opened its new state-of-art, $100 million wet corn milling plant in Karnataka, India.

The Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sri Siddaramaiah, Cargill chairman and chief executive officer, David MacLannan, and Cargill’s India chairman, Siraj Chaudhry led a ceremony in the presence of over 500 employees, customers, local authorities, and members of the local community to inaugurate the plant.

The new facility is spread over 44.5 acres of land and has the capacity to mill 800 tons of corn per day. The plant will produce glucose and other corn derivative products to be used as thickeners, sweeteners, and other uses by the food and healthcare industries, both locally and in the Southeast Asian and African markets.

The plant will integrate the most modern safety, quality, and water conservation technologies, treating and recycling waste water within the factory. Cargill is also reaching out to improve standards in the surrounding Davangere District through school enhancements, farmer training, economic support programs for women in farming households, and community outreach initiatives.

“At Cargill, we are committed to help our customers and communities we operate in thrive. Cargill’s commitment towards successful establishment of our business in India without compromising on ecological balance, employee safety and customer delivery are top priorities for us,” said David MacLennan in a company statement.
