Richardson Flour Mill Acquired, to be Renamed Panhandle Milling

The acquisition of the Richardson flour mill located in Dawn, Texas was completed on January 8 by former Ardent Mills senior director, John Mason, and Colorado wheat farmer and feedlot operator, John Cure, according to World Grain.

The pair say that they plan to revert the 5,000 cwts facility, which produces organic, whole grain, high gluten flour and bread flour to a family run operation to be called Panhandle Milling - the original name of the business when it was launched in 1985 as a farmer cooperative.

The operation has changed hands numerous times over the past 15 years. In 2001 it was acquired by 21st Century Grain Processing Cooperative, and subsequently purchased by Viterra Inc. Upon the acquisition of Viterra by Glencore International in 2012, Glencore agreed to sell Viterra’s milling business to Richardson International, including the Dawn, Texas milling facility.

Mason, who was the senior director of operations for Ardent’s flour mills from their corporate offices in Denver, Colorado, told World Grain, “The mill is uniquely situated to take full advantage of the changing grain products such as organic, sprouted grains, whole wheat products. It supplies extremely consistent flour products with superior quality as a result of the large natural wheat sources in the area.”
