ADM to Add Soy Crushing Capacity at German Plant to Meet Non-GMO Demand

Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) announced it is investing in its Straubing, Germany-based rapeseed processing plant to install switch capacity to allow the facility to also process soybeans. The renovation will allow for the site to crush non-GMO soybeans that have been sourced from the Danube region for the production of non-GMO soymeal to be sold to customers in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.

The added switch capacity, allowing for the crushing of both rapeseed and soybeans at one site, will increase the company’s flexibility in being able to respond to shifts in demand in regional markets.

“This investment underscores ADM’s commitment to the Danube region by sourcing local raw materials to meet growing market demand,” says Jon Turney, general manager, European Soybean Crush. “By sourcing non-GMO soybeans from the Danube region, ADM will not only provide farmers an outlet for those crops, but will also provide customers with meal from locally-grown beans, along with the possibility to market products using the Danube Soy® label.”

The plant renovation is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2016.
