ADM Announces Advancement on Sustainability Targets

Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) announced in its latest Corporate Responsibility Report on May 27 that is has significantly reduced its water and energy use per unit of production, or its ‘water and energy intensity’.

Since 2008 the group has reduced its water intensity by 19.1%, and since 2010 the group has reduced its energy intensity by 17.3% - ahead of the company’s target of reaching a 15% reduction of water intensity by 2018, and of energy intensity by 2020.

Since 2010 the company has also reduced its carbon emissions by 8.6% per production unit, putting the group on pace to reach its goal of a 15% reduction by 2020.

In addition, the company reports that more than 90 Brazilian soybean farmers have signed on to ADM’s newly launched ADM Responsible Soy Standard, which outlines a wide array of environmental, social, agronomic, and legal standards for growers to adhere to, giving buyers from Europe and other regions the ability to source soybean protein meal produced in a sustainable manner.
