ADM Plans Fourth Premix Plant in China

Food safety concerns are a constant in China, and as demand continues to grow for safe, high quality animal feed, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has announced it is building a new feed premix plant in Zhangzhou, China. The construction of this plant marks the group’s fourth in the country, adding to the group’s plants in Dalian and Tianjin in North China, and another under construction in Nanjing in eastern China.

“China has ambitious goals for food security and safety, which are creating great opportunities to provide more of the consistent, quality feed products that ADM is known for,” Brent Fenton, president, ADM Animal Nutrition tells World Grain.

The plant in Zhangzhou will produce 30,000 tons of premix products per year containing vitamins, minerals, and special feed additives that can be added to animal feed rations for better animal health and growth, and will also have the annual capacity to produce 80,000 tons of complete feeds and concentrates. The plant, which is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2016, will be geographically located to best serve the Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan provinces, which are home to large scale aquaculture, poultry, and swine industries.

ADM has also announced it intends to construct a new automated feed mill adjacent to its existing mill in Glencoe, Minnesota. The new Glencoe facility will have a yearly production capacity of 80,000 tons, and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2016.

The addition of the new global facilities will support ADM achieving higher levels of operational efficiencies. Brent Fenton tells World Grain, “With these new plants in Minnesota and China, we are better able help to meet the needs of livestock producers around the world.”
