Bunge Resumes Canola Processing After Fire; Soy Line Down

On Thursday, a fire broke out on the processing line at Bunge’s Hamilton, Ontario oilseed processing plant. The fire started inside a soybean dryer, according to the Hamilton Spectator newspaper, and caused C$20,000 worth of damage. No injuries were reported.

By Thursday night the plant was able to resume canola processing, said a Bunge spokesperson, and soybean processing will begin after the completion of the investigation and the water is cleaned up.

Bunge owns four other oilseed crushing plants in Canada. This is the second fire at a major Canadian oilseed processor in the past six months. Production was temporarily shut down at Louis Dreyfus Corp's Yorkton, Saskatchewan plant in October after an explosion and fire.
