Canada’s Paterson Grain Expands into the U.S.

Winnipeg-based Paterson Grain is expanding its network into the U.S. for the first time since it was founded 107 years ago. The company has recently been granted approval to construct a new grain terminal and loop track in Bottineau, North Dakota. Construction on the $25 million project is scheduled to begin this spring.

Paterson Grain ranks as the fifth biggest grain handling business in Canada with 28 elevators across Western Canada including 13 in Manitoba, 13 in Saskatchewan, and 2 in Alberta, and overall storage capacity for 550,000 tons of grain.

The new U.S. facility, which will be located on a spur line owned by Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF), will accept both U.S. and Canadian grains. It will have storage capacity for 1.37 million bushels including two 630,000 steel bins and ten additional bins each with the capacity to hold 11,000 bushels, according to local reports.
